Oversharing Online
In recent years, social media has become the primary resource for networking between people of all ages and geographical locations. Social media has its ups and downs, but overall the impact it has on people's lives varies based on the individual.
Because of the endless news resources, communication platforms, and personal connections that are accessible via the Internet, social media reality is relative based on what the user chooses to consume. Most sites rely on ad services and user data in order to show information/posts that the user will enjoy, thus keeping the user interested in the site.
Sites such as Facebook, TikTok and Instagram are aware of the distraction they have become to individuals who have access to them. It is the responsibility of these companies to insure that the health of their audience is well-maintained by taking a break from their platforms every once in a while. TikTok has done well with promoting digital well-being by adding this feature which users can choose to opt in or out of in their app settings.
In my opinion, these sites offer a way for people to express themselves in how they choose. The freedom of expression is important for the creative development for each individual. However, because social media has become almost too accessible, it is changing our daily routines and thus changing the present as we know it.
